On This Fag Being Tired Of Your Shit

September 21, 2011

Although the term is not technically gender appropriate for me based off the dictionary definition that associates the term with homosexual males, I choose to list myself as a fag today, as we celebrate the final death of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy because I’m fucking tired of the assholes I work with using the term as a swear word. I debated briefly using the term “FagHag” in the title, but opted not to because it perpetuates a word I have a serious problem with.

My sexuality and sexual identity, be is gay, straight, queer, bi, asexual, whatever, is not appropriate to use as an insult or to describe a situation that pisses you off. EVER. The traffic jam you are in isn’t homosexual, don’t call it gay. The person in class who says something you think is stupid isn’t an effeminate male (and honestly, it doesn’t matter if he is), don’t call him a fag. Not being cisgendered is not shameful, it isn’t something dirty and to be looked down on and hurled around as an insult and it needs to stop now.

I’m not alone in this frustration. I have seen many people use the comparison of calling people a retard and it is the same mentality that perpetuates these things. I’m proudly queer, as are many of my friends. I will not tolerate your laziness and disrespect in substituting any words affiliated to persons who do not identify as cisgendered for your expressions of frustration and insult. Go expand your vocabulary and come up with something legitimately insulting; the internet is good for more than porn.

Until Next Time,
~Rose
